Termites cause billions in damage yearly, and most of it happens silently inside walls. The good news: modern prevention is layered, long-lasting, and far cheaper than repairs. Here are the four layers we recommend, from the ground up.
1. Soil barrier treatment
A treated zone in the soil around the foundation stops subterranean termites before they reach the sill plate. Professionally applied barriers last around five years and are undetectable once the trench is closed.
2. Bait stations
In-ground stations around the perimeter let foraging termites carry slow-acting control back to the colony. They double as an early-warning system — we check them on every plan visit.
3. Treated and sealed lumber
For decks, fences, and new framing, pressure-treated lumber resists both termites and rot. Existing exposed wood can be brush-treated with borate, which soaks in and poisons the wood against feeding for years.
4. Moisture control
Termites follow dampness. Fixing gutter drainage, crawl-space vapor barriers, and plumbing leaks removes the welcome mat — often the single highest-impact step a homeowner can take.
